The Groundlings Program

UPDATE: Unfortunately, we did not receive enough registrations by the deadline to proceed with the virtual Groundlings program this summer. Thank you to everyone who signed up, and we look forward to beginning this program in person next year!

A new education and performance program for grades 6-12

This is an educational and performance program for grades 6-12 that will be conducted in a completely virtual format for 2020. If you are a young person interested in Shakespeare, or have someone in your life who would love the opportunity to spend a summer working on a virtual all-youth production with Ithaca Shakespeare Company, send them our way or register now!

For our inaugural season, we’ll be putting on a virtual production of Romeo & Juliet, cast entirely with young actors, and directed by Shakespeare acting coach Miranda Bianchi.

Students will audition for and prepare roles in Romeo & Juliet, and will also have the opportunity to attend virtual workshops and lectures on theatre history, voice, and text, and talkbacks with local professionals. The class will culminate in a livestream virtual performance of Romeo & Juliet, which will be recorded and made available to audiences post-show.

The program is scheduled to begin on May 18 and will proceed alongside rehearsals for our summer season productions. In general, students will be asked to attend 2-3 virtual classes or rehearsals per week over the duration of the program.

Tuition for the program is $197 per student. It is important to us that the Groundlings experience is accessible to any student wishing to participate, so need-based scholarships will be available. Apply for them through the registration form below.

The Ithaca Shakespeare Company is thrilled to offer this incredible new opportunity for young actors!

The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
