“I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.” - WS

Over the years, the Ithaca Shakespeare Company has tried very hard to keep the cost of its tickets down, to preserve the family-friendly approach to Shakespeare's works and keep our productions accessible to all. But ticket sales, as a reliable revenue stream, leave much to be desired.

Our summer 2017 performances of Richard III and Much Ado About Nothing were severely disrupted by weather events, resulting in much lower ticket sales than anticipated and leaving us with a substantial shortfall for this year.

Bowing to economic pressure, next summer we will be forced to raise our ticket prices to $20 for general admission — still a remarkable bargain in this day and age. However, you can take action today to secure tickets at last year’s prices:

Become a member of the Company now.

This will accomplish three goals: it will provide us with economic stability as we close off our old fiscal year and begin our new, it will secure you the right to buy tickets at $5 off the new prices, and it will give us the resources to begin planning our next season with confidence.

We urge our friends to act now.

Bonus: Choose our plays next summer!

As a bonus for becoming a member before the end of the year, you will be able to vote on which productions we will undertake next summer! Our artistic director has chosen the following five titles, from which we will pick two based on member feedback:

  • The Taming Of The Shrew. Shakespeare’s greatest battle of the sexes like you’ve never seen it before! ISC’s production aims to turn the traditional approach on its head by incorporating material from the little-known sequel written by Shakespeare’s successor, The Tamer Tamed.
  • Romeo And Juliet. The most famous love story of all time is also a compelling coming-of-age story. From the opening battle between warring families to the tragic conclusion, get swept away in this tale of overwhelming emotion, dazzling swordfights, and poetic passion.
  • As You Like It. One of Shakespeare’s most beloved romantic comedies, featuring one of his strongest and most resourceful heroines, an epic wrestling match, a love quadrangle, music and dance, and perhaps the second-most famous speech in all of Shakespeare!
  • Julius Caesar. An epic tale of betrayal, murder, and revolution, as ancient Rome transitions from Republic to Empire and one man’s decision changes the course of history.
  • The Merry Wives of Windsor. Legend has it that Queen Elizabeth enjoyed the character of Falstaff so much that she asked Shakespeare to write a new play showing “Sir John in love.” Hilarity ensues when the lovable rogue tries to seduce several married women, and nothing goes quite according to plan.

Our goal from this activity is to have $10,000 in by the end of the calendar year. That means we need to hear from approximately 350 individuals out of the thousands who have attended our performances across the past 15 years.
