Carnival in Venice is one of the world's great festivals, dating back to the 12th century and drawing up to 3 million visitors a year to Venice to participate. The famous masks worn during Carnival have become iconic images and enduring symbols of Venice. In 2013, the final night of Carnival is Tuesday, February 12 — which (not coincidentally) is the opening night of our production of The Merchant of Venice.
